The book amasses the history of “luxury”, bourgeois, well-off, housing… through the work of numerous architects, some well-known, others anonymous nowadays.
Saldaña, Zuazo, Gutiérrez Soto, García Mercadal, Aníbal Alvarez, Aguinaga, Sáenz de Oíza, Cano Lasso, Ruiz de la Prada, Aroca and Burkhalter, Higueras and Miró, Carvajal, Lamela, García Benito, Corrales and Molezún, Bueso-Inchausti & Rein, Vicens and Ramos or Ábalos & Sentkiewicz … are just some of the names. Architects authors of buildings that today are heritage of the city of Madrid and whose values have rarely been highlighted. Equally creditable was the commitment of developer companies, such as Tiuna, Fincosa or Jotsa, or the own entrepreneurial adventures of Zuazo, Lamela or Ruiz de la Prada.
The book has produced its own documentation: more than 100 redrawn floor plans, visits to the buildings, exterior and interior photographs, publicity of the different periods, literary and press references, interviews with architects, promoters, neighbors, janitors… etc. A great effort that gathers more than five years of research.
All this makes it an extraordinarily innovative book. A true heritage initiative that contributes to complete Madrid’s memory.
